It’s Day 6 of the 9 Days of TILTness, and the TILT teaser trailer is one more step closer to playing at the Flyway Film Festival.

And yes, I assure you this is day 6… no matter what that crazy graphic at the beginning of the video says. On TILT production day 6 we celebrated a birthday – watch, and see whose it was!

If you missed the 5th day of TILTness, catch up here.  If you’re all caught up, here’s the 6th…

Here we are, half way through the 9 Days of TILTness and almost to the unveiling of the TILT teaser trailer at the Flyway Film Festival.

The other link of the day that I mention in the video is for Gregory Bayne’s movie, Person of Interest, and the cool POI t-shirt I am wearing in the video.  It’s a great film, check it out.

If you missed the 4th day of TILTness, catch up here.  If you’re all caught up, here’s the 5th…

Ready for the 6th day of TILTness? Then let’s go!

Last week we celebrated our TILT actors. Now it’s time to give our TILT techies some love.

It takes a lot of people to make a film well, and not just any people will do. You need dedicated, hard-working folks who are smart, talented, and able to balance intense bursts of busy-ness and long periods of waiting with grace and dexterity. Finding people who are fun to be around and like the same things on a midnight pizza doesn’t hurt, either.

On the set of TILT, in addition to the creative team of Phil, Julie, Jeremy, and I, we had the great fortune of working with talented sound recordist Joshua Hemsworth, along with two amazing production assistants, Tony Augustinack and Nick Vitale.

Photographer Mari Kivisto was also on hand to collect visual proof of our production antics and anguish, as was TILT cheerleader and jane-of-all-trades Tara Giese, who magically appeared on set each and every time we needed funny dances, goofy faces, solid hugs, yoga stretches, caramel macchiatos, and energy boosts. (You might argue that Tara’s are not technically ‘technical skills,’ to which we’d say you’ve obviously never been on a sleep-deprived, slap-happy film set.)

Josh can hear things I didn't even know were hear-able.

We want to permanently hire Tony to work on all our sets.

An uncharacteristic moment of downtime for Nick, a rarity.

A little slice o' Mari...

And now, time to get our video on:

Now that TILT is wrapped, it’s time to play with behind-the-scenes footage. We hope you’ll enjoy the first in our series of videos about the people involved with the film.  Today’s subject: TILTtheActors

TILT Day #2

TILT Day #2

Phil searched high and low for this cast, and we were lucky enough to end up with a group of actors who were both talented and fun to work with.  Our actors not only delivered quality performances, but they provided costumes, a few key props, make-up suggestions, and even locations.  This was a fun group that got really close really fast. As a result, there might have been a tear or 5000 each time a cast member headed home.

Most of the interviews in this video are by TILT writers / producers Julie & Jessica, but there were a few actors who ran away with the show…and the mic.  Shocker…

Here is what is going well so far:

  1. Our actors are delivering top-notch performances
  2. The weather is cooperating
  3. Our cast and crew are fantastically hard-working and enthusiastic
  4. The kind folks of Brainerd are incredibly supportive and curious

Here is what is NOT going well so far:

  1. Sleeping.  Sleeping is not going well so far
  2. And, erm, well, the actors, um, they had some suggestions for some fixes… Check out the “Secret Production Meeting” video below to get the scoop…

We had 8 formidable contestants, but the votes are in, and the finalists are:

THANK YOU to everyone who voted as well as to our runners up.  TeamTILT is now deliberating on the two films that best fit the needs of TILT, and we will announce the winners on Sunday, August 22nd, 2010.  And, as always with TILT,  there may or may not be further surprises in store…

Cheers!

Y’all ready for this? The TILT team is happy to announce…a new contest! Within our indie thriller TILT, we’ve included a few scenes where characters watch movies. What does this mean for you if you’re an indie film maker? It means we want to showcase YOUR movie in OUR movie.

What does an indie film maker look like?

What does an indie film maker look like? Jessica & Phil

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

  • What will be considered for the contest? Completed feature-length indie films with completed trailers only
  • Who can submit a trailer to the contest? The person who owns the rights to the film. In some cases this will be the film maker; in others, the producer. If you’re not sure, email us, and we’ll help you figure it out.
  • Can a film maker submit trailers for more than one film? Yes, as long as the movies and trailers are finished.
  • Can a film maker submit more than one trailer for the same film? Nope. Send us the one you like the most.
  • What genres will be considered? Any genre. Every genre. As long as the film is indie, feature length, and finished.
  • How can I submit? Submit by emailing us a link to a trailer you have on either YouTube or Vimeo.
  • What’s the window for submissions? Submissions will be accepted via email starting RIGHT NOW (on Monday, August 9th, 2010). The window will close promptly at 12pm CST on Monday, August 16th, 2010.

Ready to get started? Then shoot us an email at tiltthemovie[at]gmail.com with a link to your trailer.

THEN WHAT?

  • VOTING: After we have all of the submissions, we’ll embed them on this website.  Depending on the number of submissions, we may have more than one round of voting.  This will be determined on Monday, August 16th, 2010, after the submission window closes.  Once voting starts, friends and fans will be asked to vote for the indie trailer they like the best.  So, it would behoove you to give your friends and family members a heads-up about what you’re doing…every vote counts!
  • FINALISTS: The top 4 submissions, as determined by fan vote, will be evaluated by the TILT team.  Two winners will be announced on the TILT blog before the end of August.
  • PRIZE: We will invite the winning film makers to include scenes from their films in the finished version of TILT.  No monetary compensation is included in this prize. However, we promise to promote the inclusion of your film in our film to the best of our ability and give appropriate credit in the credits.
  • WINNERS: If you are selected as a winner of this contest, we’ll ask you to send us a copy of your full movie in order to use it in TILT.  The TILT team reserves the right to pick scenes from the winning films that best fit the needs of TILT.

(This is a repost of our Kickstarter update page from last Friday)

Hello everyone. Today I wanted to write a little bit about something that is mentioned in our $100 incentive: short films. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love short films. Shorts have a way of telling a story, opening up characters, and stirring your emotions in a matter of minutes.

The “secret” shorts that we will be making aren’t really a secret. They have been part of the overall plan for the TILT experience since early on. We just haven’t talked about them publicly. Well, that ends now.

Because the shorts are mentioned on the $100 incentive, I have received a few questions about them. So, let me lay out a few facts about TILT: The Shorts.

  • There will be 4 short films.
  • Each short will give a peek into the life of one of the supporting characters.
  • You will not have to see the shorts to watch the feature, or vice versa. But why wouldn’t you?
  • The shorts will be the 1st things that we edit.
  • As they are finished, the shorts will be available for a limited time to our $100+ backers for their input.
  • They will then be released to the internet for everyone to check out, free of charge, while we edit the feature.
  • They will also be included as a feature in the Special Edition DVD. (and the iPhone/iPad app, but we’ll talk more about that later)

That’s right, we are about to make, not only a feature film, but 4 short films as well. Are we up for the task? Absolutely! The biggest question hanging out there now is: Why? Great question. Thanks.

The answer… because we can. Oh, ok, not just that. You see, Julie & Jessica have created a very rich fictional version of my hometown of Brainerd, MN. The characters are well-written and developed with fantastic back stories. Unfortunately, if we told all of these stories, TILT would be about 10 hours long. Besides, TILT is mainly about a father & a daughter, Paul & Liz. Those other characters will just have to go get their own movies. Which is exactly what happened. Four of these fabulous supporting characters will have a short film that will allow you a glimpse into their life. A glimpse probably not seen by their own friends and family, but you’ll get to be there. Will they be scary, funny, or sad? You’ll have to watch them all and see.

Will it be a lot of work? Sure, but it will also be really cool! Besides, you’re all helping us with the hardest part, the funding. You are all so amazing. We couldn’t do it without you. The last couple weeks have been an amazing ride. Thank you so much for coming with us.
